That was a HUGE one!
It was really cold at 8am when they screwed the lid on the coffee thermos, threw their rods and auger over their shoulders and headed out on the Rosen Lake ice for a few hours of ice fishing. I stayed in the toasty cabin sipping my hot coffee wondering how freezing your tootsies off on a chilly winter morning, trying to catch a fish through a hole in the ice, could be any fun!
After a couple hours I headed out for a walk to see if they had made any progress. Poor guys, they both looked so cold and defeated, they hadn’t had a bite all morning. Mike handed me his rod while he and Dean rummaged through their back-packs looking for a couple Kit-Kat bars.
Within seconds… a bite… a huge bite! I tried reeling it in, but the monster was so enormous it almost snapped the rod! In fact, this fish was so mammoth I almost went toppling over as I tried to reel it in. Dean and Mike rushed over, one helping me reel the beast in, the other helping pull it out of the hole. Whew! The giant trout came thrashing from the ice! What a beauty! As quickly as it had taken a chomp of the lure, we removed the hook, got in position for a photo and released the colossal fish back in the water. Wow, how exhilarating.
I got up with them at 8am the following morning to join them on the ice.
